  Primary squamules attached to substratum, forming a spreading, diffract or areolate crust, minute, whitish or pale green to green-yellow, white below; cortex distinctly grooved-striate, yellow-green to brownish; spaces between cartilaginous strands exposing corticate granules. Pseudopodetia terete, uniformly corticate, becoming fissured at maturity, grooved, ±canaliculate or partly hollow, 1–2 mm wide at base expanding to 2–6 mm wide at apex, 0.1–10 mm tall. Apothecia terminal, often also subterminal and lateral, simple becoming compound and aggregate, rarely proliferating from exciple; disc surface smooth, pale yellow to pinkish brown. Ascospores ellipsoidal, straight or curved, 5–8 × 2–3 µm. Pycnidia 1–2.5 mm tall; ostiole apical, 0.05–0.08 mm wide. CHEMISTRY: usnic, divaricatic, nordivaricatic (trace) and stenosporic (trace) acids.
     
  Occurs in W.A., S.A., Qld, N.S.W., A.C.T., Vic. and Tas., and is also found in N.Z., Papua New Guinea, New Caledonia, Indonesia, Vietnam and Japan. Grows on bark and wood.
